Its secondary marketplace encompasses an additional 1.7 million residents in 36 U.S. counties and two Canadian provinces.

A 1,200-member Business Improvement District and the Downtown Spokane Partnership work together to market, manage and maintain Downtown Spokane. Ongoing services result in a clean, safe, friendly and exciting urban environment that is attractive for business, investment, employment and enjoying the finer things in life.

An estimated 2,331 Downtown businesses represent almost 11% of total businesses in Spokane County.
Education Supports Business Development
Gonzaga University was established in Downtown Spokane more than 100 years ago and has 6,000 students living Downtown. In the late 1980s, Washington State University and Eastern Washington University opened the Riverpoint Campus, now part of the University District. Currently the University District serves approximately 9,000 students, providing undergraduate and graduate programs, a center for local research and development, and a workforce of trained professionals. An estimated 11,000 students will be using the University District by 2010.
