Downtown Spokane

Welcome to Downtown Spokane!

Spokane is "one of the nation's 50 hottest
places for business relocation"

– Expansion Management

Spokane, Washington, is the hub of the three-state Inland Northwest. Its Downtown is the focal point of regional energy and creativity, offering an architecturally rich heritage, the beauty of the Spokane River and technological connectivity to the global community.

As regional center of finance and business, entertainment and retail, culture and recreation, medical services, and education, Downtown Spokane’s primary service area includes 827,000 people in 17 Washington, Idaho and Montana counties. Its secondary marketplace encompasses an additional 1.7 million residents in 36 U.S. counties and two Canadian provinces.

Business Owners Take Pride in Downtown

A 1,200-member Business Improvement District and the Downtown Spokane Partnership work together to market, manage and maintain Downtown Spokane. Ongoing services result in a clean, safe, friendly and exciting urban environment that is attractive for business, investment, employment and enjoying the finer things in life.

The Business Environment is Vital

An estimated 2,331 Downtown businesses represent almost 11% of total businesses in Spokane County.

  • More than 16 major employers are located Downtown including Sterling Savings Bank, Wells Fargo, WestCoast Hospitality Corp., Spokesman-Review, Spokane School District No. 81, and federal and city government offices.
  • Downtown Spokane’s nationally recognized Terabyte Triangle and 100-block Downtown SpokaneHotZoneSM wi-fi area are Spokane’s fastest growing business sectors and the hub of regional technology companies with more than 150 companies clustered in the Downtown core.
  • The region’s largest cluster of leading-edge health care services and medical research and development facilities are in Downtown Spokane. A health care workforce of more than 18,500 serves residents of four states and Canada.

Education Supports Business Development

Gonzaga University was established in Downtown Spokane more than 100 years ago and has 6,000 students living Downtown. In the late 1980s, Washington State University and Eastern Washington University opened the Riverpoint Campus, now part of the University District.  Currently the University District serves approximately 9,000 students, providing undergraduate and graduate programs, a center for local research and development, and a workforce of trained professionals. An estimated 11,000 students will be using the University District by 2010.
