Clean, Safe & Friendly in Downtown

The Downtown Spokane Partnership manages the Downtown Business Improvement District programs for a Clean, Safe, and Beautiful Downtown Spokane.

Downtown Spokane Security Ambassadors

The Downtown Spokane Security Ambassadors serve the businesses and patrons of Downtown with all of their security needs and provide valuable hospitality services. The distinctively dressed Ambassadors in beige, black and rust colored uniforms enhance the unique urban experience by walking the beat Downtown five days a week, totaling more than 25,000 miles a year. The crew of ten is trained to provide assistance for all situations - directions, street disturbances, employee/customer escorts, crowd control and medical emergencies, just to name a few.

The Ambassadors assist people from all walks of life and intervene in safety situations when necessary to make Downtown a pleasant experience to be enjoyed by all. Every situation is approached with caution and respect. Ambassadors work hand-in-hand with community partners including the Spokane Police Department, Department of Corrections, Community Detox, Mental Health, Family Services, Cross Walk, local charitable organizations and other security agencies Downtown.

Ambassador hours: Tuesday-Saturday 11:30am-7:30pm.

Change for the Better Program

Give Real Change, Not Spare Change

Panhandling becomes a way of life for some individuals on the street. They may seek responsibility, but need resources to guide them in a positive direction. Giving spare change is only a short term solution and does not create long term results. You cannot be sure where the money will go and it may also encourage behavior to stay on the street. Donating to a local organization rather than an individual not only benefits individuals in need but the entire community as well. Give in ways that make a change.

Tips for dealing with panhandlers:

  • Walk with confidence; the streets of Spokane belong to us all.
  • If a panhandler asks for money, acknowledge with a nod, reply with a firm "no" and keep walking.
  • If you feel threatened or harassed in any way, find a Security Ambassador (call 353-9111), call the police, or step inside a business and have someone call for you.
  • You can help those in need to receive the services they require by giving to your favorite charitable organization. See Change for the Better for more details.

Safety Tips

Smart Parking Tips:

  • Never leave anything of value in plain sight. Place all shopping bags in the trunk, do not keep them in the front or back seat where they are visible.
  • Always have your keys ready when approaching a car
  • Never leave pets unattended in your vehicles, especially during the summer months.
  • When using public parking lots, be sure to use a key or the tool on the parking pay box to push your money fully in the slots.

If you are alone:

  • Walk confidently and stay alert.
  • Walk in well lit areas.
  • Be aware of those around you.
  • Hold your purse or bag close to your body.
  • Dont overburden yourself with bags.

If you need to walk somewhere that makes you feel uncomfortable, call the Security Ambassadors for an escort, at 509.353.9111.
